Supportive Forces

Helping to provide support to correctional officers and other system staff

Correctional officers have a higher suicide rate than police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and paramedics.

"Supportive Forces"— is a researched-based program dedicated to fostering healthier, more compassionate environments within the carceral system by creating awareness on moral injury which is a form of trauma. We believe that supporting the mental health of officers directly enhances their ability to treat incarcerated individuals with fairness and respect, ultimately improving the system as a whole. Our tailored services are designed to meet the unique needs of each facility, and our goal is to offer correctional officers the skills to identify their trauma and find solution based methods of coping and healing both in the workplace and at home.

HOW “SUPPORTIVE FORCES” MAKES A DIFFERENCE

  • After taking our workshop, correctional officers will be able to identify what moral injury is and what signs of this trauma might look like in their lives

  • They will also be able to identify how moral injury impacts their life and the lives around them

  • Correctional officers will learn how to engage in peer-to-peer support to continue spreading growth and healing

  • Supports university research to explore the national impact of workplace trauma, examining its connections to moral injury, substance abuse, and suicide
